Specimen Requirements

Preparation:

1. Notify the laboratory at least 1 weekday prior to surgery. If surgery is on a Monday, notify the laboratory at least by the previous Friday.
2. To schedule rapid PTH testing, email both the Core Laboratory (South Campus) and North Campus Laboratory (CAM) : jxh0148@bjc.orgmem3584@bjc.org, dgm6996@bjc.org, nxo0735@bjc.org, gronowski@wustl.edu, sgh4811@bjc.orglaa9670@bjc.org,  and chemqa@bjc.org. Alternately,  for surgeries at the North Campus call 314-454-7510 and for South Campus call 314-362-5257 (preferred) or 314-362-3191.
3. When surgery begins, call the Core Laboratory at 314-362-5257 or North Campus Laboratory at 314-454-7510 and provide the following information: patient name; location of OR; OR room number; phone number to callback results; and ordering physician.

Additional Information: Drawing in a plain red-top tube will delay analysis by approximately 30 minutes.

Reference Values

There is no reference range associated with the IMMULITE turbo method used to perform intraoperative PTH. The surgeon is following the course of the PTH during the surgery and is looking for a significant drop in the PTH result. Routinely an approximate drop of at least 50% is expected.
