Laboratory Processing Instructions:

Test performed in BJH Core Lab.  Processed by automated line for delivery to the Cobas 8000.

Test performed in North Campus Laboratory. Centrifuge upon receipt and deliver to the Modular.

Completed specimens are stored refrigerated for 5 days.

For patients receiving Rasburicase:

Collection Container: Pre-chilled mint green

Collection Instructions: Elitek (Rasburicase) causes enzymatic degradation of uric acid in blood samples at room temperature, resulting in spuriously low uric acid levels. Blood must be collected in a pre-chilled tube, immediately immersed in ice water, and sent immediately to the Chemistry laboratory. Samples must be assayed within 4 hours of collection. Results will be commented using the comment template: RASB; "Results may be falsely decreased due to Elitek (Rasburicase)".
