Test Code 7044 Fetal Red Cell Percentage by Flow Cytometry

Performing Laboratory

Barnes-Jewish Hospital Laboratory

Methodology

Flow Cytometry
Note: Fetal hemoglobin will be performed by the Kleihauer-Betke method under the following circumstances:

1. Routine requests that cannot be completed within 24 hours of receipt.

2. STAT requests received on weekends, holidays, or between the hours of 2100 and 0700, Monday through Friday.

If  the Kleihauer-Betke is positive then a temporary verbal result will be called.  Flow cytometry will be performed the next working day to confirm the Kleihauer-Betke result.  If the Kleihauer-Betke is negative the Fetal Red Cell Percentage by Flow Cytometry will be cancelled and the Kleihauer-Betke result will be reported.
