Interpretation:  Anti-NMDA receptor IgG antibodies are a valuable marker of autoimmune encephalopathy against the NR1 subunit of glutamate receptor (type NMDA) and also associated with tumors (mostly teratomas).  Anti-NMDA receptor autoantibodies are usually accompanied by subacute neurological symptoms and signs, and not found in healthy subjects.
