Negative

No detectable IgM antibody to EBV Capsid Antigen.  A negative result indicates no current infection with EBV.

Equivocal

Uncertain immune status, suggest sending additional specimen.

Positive

Indicates the presence of detectable IgM antibody to EBV Capsid antigen.  This indicates a current or reactive infection with EBV.

Specimen may be stored at 2 °C to 8 ° C for 7 days prior to testing with no more that 3 freeze/thaw cycles.

Laboratory Processing Instructions:

Test performed in BJH Core Laboratory. Specimen will be processed on the automated line for delivery to the AOB rack with a minimum of 1 mL of serum.  Completed specimens will be stored 7 days refrigerated.
