Methodology

Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)

(PCR is utilized pursuant to a license agreement with Roche Molecular Systems, Inc.)

Specimen Requirements

Acceptable Specimens:

Urine: ≥2 mL in a leakproof screw-capped, sterile container

Whole blood: 1 lavender-top (EDTA) tube

 

Collection Procedure:

Urine
1. Aseptically collect ≥2 mL of urine in a leakproof screw-capped, sterile container. (Urine collected in BD VACUTAINER grey-top C & S Preservative Tube or other tube containing additives is not acceptable.)
2. Maintain sterility and forward promptly.

3. If transport is delayed, refrigerate specimen. 
Note: Specimen source is required.

 

Whole Blood
1. Draw blood into tube. 
2. Maintain sterility and forward promptly at ambient temperature only.
Note: 1. Specimen source is required.

2. EDTA plasma is acceptable as long as it has been stored at 2o C to  8o C.
