Specimen Requirements

Note: This test is also available as part of LAB18 Lipid Panel. 

 

Patient Preparation:

1. Fasting (12 to 14 hour, overnight) is required if triglycerides or LDL, calculated are ordered along with this test, as triglycerides are affected by recent dietary intake. A fasting specimen is not required if triglycerides or LDL, calculated are not ordered.

2. Patients should be following ordinary eating habits and not be acutely ill, losing weight, pregnant, or had a myocardial infarction within the last 3 months.
