Laboratory Processing Instructions:
Test performed in BJH Core Lab. Processed by automated line for delivery to the Cobas 8000. Completed specimens are stored refrigerated for 5 days.
Test performed in South County Siteman and Ambulatory Cancer Building Lab. Centrifuge sample and deliver to the Cobas. Completed specimens are stored refrigerated for 5 days.
For patients receiving Rasburicase:
Collection Container: Pre-chilled mint green
Collection Instructions: Elitek (Rasburicase) causes enzymatic degradation of uric acid in blood samples at room temperature, resulting in spuriously low uric acid levels. Blood should be collected in a pre-chilled tube, immediately immersed in ice water, and sent immediately to the Core Lab. Samples must be assayed within 4 hours of collection. Results < 0.5 will be commented using the comment template: RASB; "Results may be falsely decreased due to Elitek (Rasburicase)".
