Reference Values

Fluid Lipase greater than serum lipase indicative of pancreatic excretions in the pleural fluid.

Ascites Lipase normally equivalent to serum levels, but elevated levels are indicative of pancreatitis or pancreatic secretions.

Ratio of JP fluid to serum lipase >1.0 is indicative of pancreatic fistula.

Test performed in BJH Core lab. If specimen is received in a VACUTAINER, check procedure to confirm suitability. Centrifuge upon receipt. Apply blue tape to specimen aliquot tube. Deliver to the Cobas 8000 for analysis. Completed specimens are stored frozen for 30 days.
