Methodology
Enzymatic (Lactate Oxidase)
Testing Algorithm:
When a Sepsis Lactate w/Reflex is ordered, if the result is > 2.0, a rule will fire to order an additional Lactate timed 3 hours after collection of the first sample. If the second sample is > 2.0, a rule will fire to order an additional Lactate timed 3 hours from the second order’s collection time. Both reflexes will be at a “Timed” status.

Specimen Type: Whole blood
Container/Tube: Sims-Portex blood gas syringe
Specimen Volume: Full tube
Collection Instructions: Draw arterial or venous heparinized whole blood.
Additional Information: Send capped syringe (no needle attached) to the laboratory.
