Multiplex Flourescent Immunoassay

Note: The primary purpose of this test is to determine past infection with HSV-2. For acute infection, when lesions are present, PCR is the preferred technique.

Results Interpretation
Nonreactive No detectable IgG antibody to HSV-2.
Equivocal Presence or absence of detectable antibodies to HSV-2 cannot be determined and the test should be repeated.
Reactive

Indicates presence of detectable IgG antibody to HSV-2.

Analyte Stability

Specimen may be stored at 2-8° C for 7 days with no more than 3 freeze/thaw cycles.

Sample may be frozen at ≤-20° C for 1 year.

Laboratory Processing Instructions:

Test performed in BJH Core Lab. Specimen is processed by automated line for delivery to AOB with a minimum of 1 mL of serum.  Completed specimens will be stored for 7 days refrigerated.
