Specimen Requirements

Specimen must arrive, be processed, and separated from cells within 2 hours of draw.

 

Hospital Patient:

Specimen Type: Plasma

Container/Tube: Mint-green top (lithium heparin)

Specimen Volume: Full tube

 

Collection Instructions: Hemolyzed specimen is not acceptable.

 

Non Hospital Patient:

Call Barnes-Jewish Hospital Laboratory Customer Service at 314-362-1470 for STAT pick-up.

Container/Tube: Mint-green top (lithium heparin), Red top (plain no gel)

Specimen Volume: Full tube

Specimen must be processed, separated from cells, and aliquoted off of gel before tranport from outpatient or other HSO lab sites.
