Positive titers should be considered diagnostic of Trichinella infection. False-negative results may occur in lightly infected individuals or within the first 3 to 4 weeks of illness in moderately infected patients. A second specimen drawn 2 to 4 weeks after the first might prove more informative in those serologically-negative patients with clinical symptoms of trichinosis.
