Specimen Requirements

Submit only 1 of the following specimens:

 

Specimen Type: Conjunctiva, heart, kidney, lung, nerve, skin biopsy

Container/Tube: Container with Michels’ fixative

Specimen Volume: Entire biopsy

Collection Instructions:

1. Place biopsy in container with Michels’ fixative.

2. Biopsy is only stable in Michels’ fixative for 24 hours.

3. Label container with patient’s name, date of birth, Social Security number, date of collection, and type of specimen.

Additional Information: Kidney biopsy must have cortex containing adequate glomeruli for processing.
