Note: The primary purpose of this test is to determine past infection with HSV-1. For acute infection, when lesions are present, PCR is the preferred technique.

Nonreactive Nonreactive: No detectable IgG antibody to HSV-1.
Equivocal Equivocal: Presence or absence of detectable antibodies to HSV-1 cannot be determined and the test should be repeated.
Reactive Reactive: Indicates presence of detectable IgG antibody to HSV-1.
