Turbidimetric Based Optical Detection System
Note: The assay detects aspirin inhibition of platelet aggregation due to irreversible acetylation of cyclo-oxygenase-1 and reduced thromboxane A2 synthesis.

Specimen Requirements
Call Barnes Jewish Hospital Hematology Laboratory Customer Service at 314-362-1470 to obtain 2, 2-mL Griener Bio-One Vacuette tubes.
Specimen Type: Sodium citrate plasma
Container/Tube: 2-mL Griener Bio-One Vacuette tubes
Specimen Volume: 2 Full tubes
Collection Instructions: Do not centrifuge. Clotted blood or an insufficient specimen is not acceptable.
Additional Information: Avoid hemolysis and heparin contamination of specimen.
Collection Procedure:
Attention to collection procedure is necessary to avoid inaccurate results, collect as follows:
1. Draw a discard tube (volume depends on type of venous access).
2. Draw 2 Griener blue-top tubes. Do not overfill or under fill.
3. Forward promptly at ambient temperature. Do not send Greiner blue-top tube through the pneumatic tube system.
